A sneek peek at the new look

From the beginning of 2010 we have been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a brand new site. Electricshopping.com is getting a new  look and we are just a few weeks away from nodding a good bye to the old and ushering in the new. Our new site will have even more products at the same low prices but will have a new look, feel and lots of new features too. One of our favourites is the compare tool, clicking on it on a product page allows you to compare as many products as you like, side by side.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to update lots of our products with even more information, extra images and more videos too. Our new menu system will be way faster to use and more logical too. We have had lots of customer input on the new site and built it around what you have asked for, to all that have helped with this, we would like to say a big thank you! We hope you like the site, if you think there is anything we can improve on, please do let us know. Keep an eye on our Twitter feed for when the site actually goes live.

Thank you for your continued support!

Life or a Nespresso Machine? George Clooney Decides…

May 26th, 2010 No comments

Behind the scenes, there’s a war going on. Just like Betamax Vs. VHS, Blu-Ray Vs. HD-DVD, the Coffee world is getting hot and steamy about pre-measured capsules, as well as some of our very poor puns.

The main contenders are Nespresso, Tassimo, EZE and Senseo and the stakes are massive for each of the brands concerned. Each have their pros and cons and while brands like Tassimo focus on offering a variety of drinks, Nespresso focus on one thing, coffee. Overall they do it well, and as someone who likes to think they know a little bit about coffee, I think that for die-hard coffee fans, Nespresso is about the best you can get in capsule form short of having to grind the beans yourself. The fact that they are mess free and uber simple to use, wins it for me. The range of blends are great and every once in a while we get to taste some special editions – this months was hazelnut, which is yummy, and great after lunch with a biscuit!

So why is their a coffee war on between the brands? Well, coffee is big business and apart from crude oil, it’s the other black gold. For Nespresso, once you buy the machine from its authorised machines partners (currently Krups, DeLonghi, Magimix and Siemens) you are locked into buying the capsules direct from them, and by 2014, Nestle, the owners of Nespresso think that market will be worth a whopping £976m!

So to make sure they get as big a share as possible, they are rolling out the big guns to advertise their proposition. In a series of three ads, George Clooney and John Malkovic come together to extol the virtues and desirability of the machines. We think they are quite funny, so thought we would share them with you too. They all have different endings, so bear with the similar start to each video.

Nespresso coffee machines from all brands are available from us, each come with a free starter pack of coffee capsules for you to get going out the box. Tassimo machines from Bosch are also in stock now, and are generally a little cheaper then Nespresso machines. For those of you who want nothing but the very best freshly ground coffee, have a look at the fully automatic bean to cup coffee machines – they are expensive, but a great investment. Look out for the seasonal offers on new machines which offer free coffee and cashback too. They generally come around in Spring and Christmas.

The 60 year history of the Kenwood Chef

May 18th, 2010 No comments

When electricshopping.com started many years ago, our first online product was a Kenwood Chef and a few attachments; indeed, the current business was built on the success of this one product. Now, almost seven years later, we have over 2000 items online and we sell across the European Union. The Kenwood Chef and Major Kitchen Machines still often feature on our Top 10 sales lists and we constantly hear from customers who just love their mixers and can’t imagine a kitchen without it. More often then even we would believe, we hear stories of Kenwoods built in the 1970’s that are still going strong – we sometimes even get them back to our repair centre to give them a tune up.

Kenwood's 60th Year

Kenwood's 60th Year

So as a homage to Britain’s favourite kitchen machine, we thought we would take a look at its history, its been going strong since 1943 afterall! Thankfully, rather then having to dig out the history books ourselves, the research has been done and put into a little documentary celebrating the Kenwood Chefs long history.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, here is is!

Part 2:

The Kenwood Chef and Kenwood Major range and all its accessories are available from us at great prices and with free UK delivery too. We like to think of ourselves as the Kenwood experts, so if you have any questions, please just let us know.

Great ads for everyday products

May 11th, 2010 No comments

Every once in a while a really good advert comes out for products that are pretty much an everyday item. For the advertiser, it can be hard to make a kettle look funky, or a blender look exciting. Trust us, finding innovative ways of marketing some of the 108 Kettles we have online can be tough!

Karcher, the pressure washer people,  have released a really cool advert recently that made us laugh. While they don’t opt for the hard sell, they really get some of the brand ideals across and show off some of their new products, like the extra powerful X-Series Pressure Washer.

Here’s the ad, we hope it brightens your day too!

Karcher pressure washers and Karcher Vacuum Cleaners and Steam Cleaners are available at the best possible prices right now in our home and garden department.

Forget vacuuming, enjoy Spring! iRobot’s Roomba is back!

April 28th, 2010 No comments

Lets face it, vacuuming can be dull. Well, I guess for most people it is anyway. I am most people. I don’t enjoy wheeling a noisy object around my house when I could be sat on sofa, or better, out enjoying the more interesting things life has to offer. Two years ago I bought my first Roomba, every day without fail off it goes and vacuums my home, without me having to lift a finger. Just like some of the best behaved children, my Roomba is also seen and not heard; I’ve set it to start cleaning in the hours that I know I will not be at home. So everyday when I get home from work, I get home to a freshly cleaned house, ready for me to relax. Robots don’t do the ironing just yet, but this has got to be a step in the right direction!

This Spring, after a long wait, the UK finally has the new Roomba range, and of course, we have them all right here on electricshopping.com. There are lots of improvements under the bonnet and a new entry model which makes joining the robot revolution more accessible then ever. At the introductory level, the Roomba 520 has everything you need to get started and for the first time, now the models lower down the range also come with a home base, so the Roomba will return home automatically when the cleanings done!

Here’s a little video of our one heading back home after a clean.

As you move up the range you get more options such as automatic scheduling, a feature that allows you to tell Roomba what time to switch on and start cleaning. Lighthouses come with the Roomba 555 robot and above. These help guide the Roomba though your home, and get it back to the base when its power is running low.

Roomba Lighthouse

The new Roomba Lighthouse can be a virtual wall or a ‘lighthouse’ helping to guide Roomba home.

At the top of the range sits the all black, stylish Roomba 581 – its the cream of the crop. It has all the features of other models as well as a wireless remote control. Handy if one of the reasons you bought the Roomba is for mobility problems, or just to show off!

We’ve dug up this user video of the ‘wireless command centre’ in use.

Whats next?

Coming soon are more models too, were waiting for the official release of the Pets model in the UK, which will be better at picking up pet hair. Theres talk of an upgraded Scooba Floor Washing Robot too – stay tuned and we’ll let you know when it comes out. For iPhone users, there’s also a Roomba app – crazy but fun!

“High Street Tax”

April 21st, 2010 No comments

The Telegraph in association with Pricegrabber, a price comparison site that we list with, has found some interesting results when they compared prices on-line to those in-store. What we suspected is true, shopping online is way cheaper then on the high street.

On an identical basket of 10 items, including the types of things we sell, shopping online proved £467 cheaper! In fact they found that a huge 95% of all prices could be beaten online.

Add to this the fact that you don’t need to lug your purchases around with you and you can buy in your own time, without a sales person breathing down your neck and we think online shopping wins every time – but then we would say that!

Product of the month: The iRobot Roomba 560 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

February 23rd, 2010 1 comment

For anyone who’s seen the film i-Robot, starring the infectious Will Smith, the technologically-induced future of temperamental human-like robots, cars that embody a Jeremy Clarkson fantasy and voice responsive household appliances, appears some way off.

Sci-fi films seldom predict a realistic future, but I guess that’s the point. The outlook in this genre is always an exciting and often over-excitable blue print of how things can be should technology ever advance to this degree and become part of society. Well, in America first, led by the heroic Will Smith of course…

For now, however, we will have to settle for the iRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaner. That’s not to say this self-sufficient and competent little machine is primitive in comparison, or wouldn’t nestle nicely in a scene from the aforementioned flick – it has all the required characteristics to do itself proud in the future.

vac1

It can happily run for at least 75 minutes before retreating to its self charging base, which means three average sized rooms benefit from its appetite for dust and dirt. It also enjoys hair, particularly pet hair, so as well as not getting blocked it’s generally animal-friendly.

Now for the really clever bit: The Roomba automatically shifts from hard floors to carpet without intervention, as well as the two virtual wall/lighthouse units informing it exactly where and where not to clean. Oh, and the lighthouse unit is activated by the Roomba itself, so will navigate freely without attacking the dog or dicing with wet surfaces.

The only thing we’d recommend is to leave the Roomba on charge permanently when not using it to ensure maximum performance and awareness, but this is by no means a flaw. The Roomba is cute as it’s clever and is ostensibly the next best thing to a human-esque robot prancing around the house with a feather duster. Kind of….

Who wants a smart a**e in the house?

February 17th, 2010 1 comment

There’s nothing more frustrating than your other half interfering when you’re cooking, or a housemate butting in with their new-found wisdom on how you should wash the dishes. “You’re not doing that right” and “Here, let me show you”, supported by indiscrete looks and audible huffs and puffs, can easily cause a fall out.

What we can all agree on, however, is no one likes a smart a**e, but what if one arrived in the form of a household appliance? That would be different, right? We reckon so. After reading a post on popularmechanics.com highlighting some smart technology for the home, we now wanted to share it with you. Oh, and we’ve chucked in a few of our products that happen to be clever too!

Another load off your mind

dishwasher

The dishwasher was undoubtedly one of the most popular and innovative appliances of the 20th Century and continues to save us all time, money and stress today.

The Brainiac Dishwasher, however, has just shaken things up a bit. With the aid of its SmartDispense technology, the in-built suds machine automatically release the correct amount of detergent relative to the load. It also calibrates for soil level, water temperature and water hardness, which you can also test against you boiler pressure thanks to a free, useful test kit. Weighing in at around £500, we think it’s worth every penny!

This will make you flush with joy

loo

As toilets go, the Toto Neorest 600 makes your average loo look like a prop from the Flintstones. Once you’ve…finished and appreciated the heated seat, you can then activate the quiet ‘Cyclone Flushing’ engine (a slight contradiction in terms) followed by an automated air deodoriser and bowl cleaner to ensure maximum hygiene. Oh, and not forgetting its rigged sensors that regulate pressure and temperature with front-and-back aerated water spray; all orchestrated by your good self via wireless control. All good clean fun…just make sure you wash your hands after.

The master of all clocks

clock

We like the Zen Clock not because it looks cool and ‘guarantees to get you out of bed in the morning’, it’s the four different scents and six packets of nature sounds that gets our seal of approval. Imagine being woken by the ‘Ocean Surf’ soundtrack before commencing your day? Certainly a gratifying upgrade from the incessant buzzer first thing!

I-want this Robot

roomba1

The iRobot Roomba 530 Robot Vacuum Cleaner just loves anything from pet hair to food debris and will happily spend boundless hours cleaning and roaming so you don’t have to! This is truly the most intelligent and intuitive vacuum cleaner around, and with innumerable attributes, including ‘cliff sensors’ so not to fall down stairs and awareness of room and floor space so not to waste energy, you’d be crazy not to welcome it into your home.

Let off a little steam every now and then

cooker1

If you’re a self-confessed, failed multi-tasker when in the kitchen, the ingenious Morphy Richards 48780 Intellisteam Steamer will provide that welcome helping hand – well, three to be precise. This clever devise is able to create whole meals in one, thanks to its three chamber cooking zones. The in-built intelligent timer ensures that each food compartment finishes at the same time, alleviating stress and over-cooked dishes.

Product of the month: The Krups Expert Combi Coffee & Espresso Machine

February 9th, 2010 2 comments

Every so often a product comes along that is worth mentioning. Not necessarily because it’s ground breaking or massively hi-tech; a product can ooze simplicity, charm and functionality and still steal the headlines.

And when it comes to coffee machines, the Krups Coffee and Espresso Machine has the latter in abundance. Krups has always been noted for its ability to produce high quality coffee makers, without you having to remortgage the house, as well as nestling comfortably between the other heavyweight, household brands.

What does separate them from their rivals, however, is their remarkable affordability when you consider the attributes this little fella has. It’s suitable for espresso, cappuccino and filter coffee, has a 10 cup capacity and strength selector, to name but a few. We like to think that if this particular coffee machine was an actual person, we would indeed like to take them out for a coffee to get to know them better. Strange you may think, but it has all the spec that exudes brains as well as brawn, and not only that, it’s low maintenance, so it wouldn’t expect you to cover the bill at the end of your date! (*sigh*).

coffee-machine

With Christmas only just behind us in the distance, it’s understandable that people aren’t compelled to spend frivolously during January and February. But the best way to justify the Krups Expert Combi Coffee & Espresso Machine is to calculate how much you spend on coffee over the course of a week or month.

True coffee advocates will be aware of their outlay while fulfilling their caffeine fix, so at a highly reasonable £163.48 (that equates to three month’s worth of coffee if you were buying a £2.50 cup every day over a five day week) you will actually save money in the long run. We’ll drink to that! Although after four espressos today already, maybe that’s not wise…
